Guidance and GPS

How do I start guiding?

On the Drive tab, set A at the start of your first pass, drive straight along it for at least 10 m, then set B. Farm Map lays parallel passes one implement width apart. Set your implement width on the Equipment tab first.

How can I get more accurate guidance?
  • Give the phone a clear view of the sky. Mount it high on the windscreen, not low on the dash or in a pocket. Trees, sheds and a metal cab roof all weaken the signal.
  • Let it settle. Wait a minute after opening the app before you set A; the accuracy improves as the phone sees more satellites.
  • Passes overlap only in one direction? Phone GPS reports where you were a moment ago. Go to Settings › GPS accuracy and raise the setting (0.3 s, 0.6 s or 1 s) until passes line up both ways.
  • Line jumping around? Turn on Settings › Smooth phone GPS to steady the line and the off-line number.
  • Need tighter passes? Connect a Bluetooth GPS receiver in Settings › Position source. A receiver gives steadier lines; an RTK receiver gives centimetres.
Which GPS receivers work?

Bluetooth receivers that send standard NMEA position data, such as Garmin GLO, Bad Elf, and u-blox or Emlid RTK units. Pair the receiver in your phone’s Bluetooth settings, then pick it in Settings › Position source. Farm Map needs the “Nearby devices” permission to talk to it.

Can I use a tablet as a bigger screen?

Yes. On the phone, turn on Settings › Share GPS with a tablet. The phone sends its position to the tablet over Bluetooth, and on the tablet you pick the phone as its GPS receiver in Farm Map.

Does Farm Map steer the tractor?

No. It’s visual guidance: it shows the line and how far off it you are, and you steer.

Fields and maps

How do I use maps with no mobile signal?

Open the field on the Fields tab and, under Offline map, tap Download while you’re on Wi-Fi. When it says Saved for offline, guidance and coverage work in that paddock with no signal. GPS itself never needs signal.

How do I add a field?

On the Fields tab, add a field and either tap its corners on the satellite map or choose Drive the edge and tap + at each corner as you drive around it. Drag a corner to move it, or tap + on an edge to add one.

Your data

How do I back up my fields and jobs?

Farm Map backs up to your Google account by itself, if backup is on in your phone’s settings, and comes back when you set up a new phone. For a copy you keep, go to Settings › Backup › Back up now and save the file to Google Drive, email or your files. To bring it back, use Settings › Backup › Restore from a backup; it replaces what’s on the phone.

Where is my data stored?

On your phone. There’s no account, and we don’t receive your fields, jobs or location. See the Privacy Policy.

How do I delete my data?

Delete a field from its page, or a job from the Work Log. Uninstalling Farm Map removes everything it stored on the phone.

Subscription

I already subscribed. How do I restore it?

Open the plans screen in Farm Map and tap Restore at the bottom. Use the same Google account you subscribed with. On a new phone, restoring brings your subscription back; you don’t need to pay again.

How do I cancel?

In the Google Play app, tap your profile picture, then Payments & subscriptions › Subscriptions › Farm Map › Cancel subscription. Cancel at least 24 hours before your trial or current period ends to avoid being charged for the next one. Uninstalling the app doesn’t cancel the subscription.

How much does it cost?

US$89.99 a year with a 7-day free trial, or US$19.99 a month with no trial. Google Play shows the price in your local currency before you subscribe.

How do I get a refund?

Purchases are handled by Google Play. See Google Play’s refund policy to request one.
